BROOKLIN – Lillian A. Williams, 89, died quietly March 24, 2005, at Penobscot Nursing Home. She was born March 14, 1916, in Blue Hill, the daughter of Watson P. and Mabel (Staples) Friend. Lillian was born and raised in South Blue Hill. She took special pride in being the direct descendant of John Friend who came to Ipswich, Mass., in 1637. Lillian was a great quilter and cook. She was a very talented seamstress – she could do just about anything with a piece of cloth. People from all around would seek her out for these skills. She was an exceptional cook, one never left her table wanting; cooking from scratch was her style and pleasure. If it was spring you could be sure to see Lillian out gathering dandelion greens for dinner. She found great joy in some of the simplest things in life. Lillian and Eddy spent many happy years together working at their farm. They loved nothing more than to head off to go camping just as soon as the last blueberry was raked. Lillian enjoyed belonging to the Sedgwick/Brooklin Historical Society and was also a member of the Grange. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her loving husband, Edmund; five daughters, Juanita Wood, of Brooklin, Eleanor McHeley of Holt, Mo., Brenda Piolpet, of Ocala, Fla., Florence Rockwell, Columbus, Ind., Susan Jones, Portland; sons, John Carter, of Surry, David Carter, of Alfred; 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to her family, she leaves a special friend, Kevin Poland, whom she often referred to as her eighth child. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ralph, Clarence and Flossie. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2005, at Rural Cemetery, Sedgwick. Contributions in Lillian’s memory may be made to the Sedgwick/Brooklin Historical Society, P.O. Box 171, Sedgwick, ME 04676. Arrangements by Jordan-Fernald, 141 South St. Blue Hill.
