DETROIT – Linwood Clifton Jones, 76, went to be with the Lord Oct. 6, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born April 8, 1931, in Pittsfield, a son of Clifton Linwood and Myrtle L. (Hicks) Jones. He served as a sergeant with the 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army, during the Korean War. On Oct. 12, 1953, he married the former Joyce Temple. He retired as a purchasing agent for San Antonio Shoe, Pittsfield. Linwood enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. In addition to his wife of 54 years, Linwood is survived by a daughter, Rita and husband, Robert Hastey, of Newport; a son, Linwood Eric Jones of Detroit; seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Daniel; and two brothers, Robert and Edward. A celebration of his life will be held 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Detroit Night Drifters Snowmobile Club.
