SEARSPORT – Lloyd F. Rainey, 83, died peacefully March 31, 2007, at a Belfast Hospital. He was born July 9, 1923, in Hallowell, the son of Thomas R. and Linda G. (Gray) Rainey. Lloyd graduated from Stockton Springs High School, Class of 1941 and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, Jerry W. Dobbins Post No. 157, past master of the Pownal Lodge No. 119 AF & AM, the Commandery and Anah Temple Shrine. Mr. Rainey worked 12 years for the Searsport school department, where the baseball field is named for him. He also worked five years for the State of Maine, as a plumber inspector. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mildred (Smith) Rainey of Searsport; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one brother, Merle C. Rainey. Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at the Searsport Congregational Church, Searsport, with the Rev. Arlin Larson officiating. Interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. Donations in his memory may be made to the Town Line Animal Shelter, Baker Road, Belfast, ME 04915 or to Searsport Congregational Church, P.O.
