MILLINOCKET and LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – Robert R. “Fitzy” Fitzpatrick died March 29, 2007, at his winter home in Lehigh Acres, Fla. Bob was born Oct. 5, 1948, in Millinocket, to Sally P. (Roche) and Robert Z. Fitzpatrick. Bob spent most of his life living in Maine. He attended Millinocket schools and graduated from Stearns High School, Class of 1967. He began his multi-faceted working career in high school as a broadcaster for WMKR radio in Millinocket, then WLBZ radio in Bangor. After active duty in the U.S. Navy, he returned to broadcasting, working in radio and television for WAGM in Presque Isle. He then returned to Millinocket and Great Northern Paper Co., where he worked in various positions for more than 30 years, retiring when the mill closed, then returning to Katahdin Paper for several months before becoming a full-time Florida snowbird. Along the way, Bob also became a licensed commercial pilot, coached Pee-Wee basketball and Little League, attended Eastern Maine Community College, and always, always lived life his way. At the time of his death, he was serving as treasurer of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lehigh Acres Lodge No. 2266. Bob was predeceased by his parents, Bob and Sally. He leaves and will be greatly missed by his beloved partner and soulmate, Ann (Hughes) Taylor of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; his son, Brian of Brewer; sister, Kathy Manzo and her husband, Fred, of Millinocket; brothers, Bill of Millinocket and Steve and his wife, Louise, of Epping, N.H.; nephew, Jason Falone; nieces, Amber and April Byron; the mother of his son, Marietta D’Agostino; several aunts, uncles and cousins; special friends, George Martin, Merle Grant and the rest of the boat crew; and, too numerous to name, friends from the Scootic Inn, the mill, Smith Pond, Millinocket and Lehigh Acres, Fla., in general. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bouchard-Lamson Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket. The Liturgy of the Word funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday, April 5, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church, 112 Maine Ave., Millinocket.
