PENOBSCOT – Lola R. (Richards) Barrett, 81, died Dec. 23, 2006, at a Penobscot nursing facility. She was born Dec. 23, 1925, in Big Springs, W.Va., one of 13 children, to Emery and Ora (Bartlett) Richards. She met her husband, Edward, in Cleveland and in the late 1940s, they moved as a family to his hometown of Penobscot where she was active in the community, a member of the Bagaduce Club, and worked for many years at the Blue Hill Department Store. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and loved the many family gatherings at the family camp on Toddy Pond. Lola was predeceased by her husband, Edward Barrett; a son, Michael Barrett; and 10 siblings. She is survived by a son, Jerry Barrett and his wife, Nancy; granddaughter, Kelley Barrett, all of Orland; grandson, Jason Kleinsmidt of Michigan; a daughter, Dianna Hathaway and her husband, Stephen, of Prospect; granddaughter, Jennifer Jackson and her husband, David; great-grandson, Christopher Quinn Jackson, all of Gainesville, Fla.; grandson, Lucas Hathaway and his wife, Jessica, of Portland; daughter-in-law, Nancy Barrett; grandson, Gabriel Barrett and his wife, Denica; great-grandson, Jordan Barrett, all of Chardon, Ohio; daughter, Joanne Barrett and her husband, Dennis King, of Penobscot; grandson, John Beardsley of Rumford; great-granddaughter, Amber Gedaro of Westbrook; granddaughter, Christina Allen and her husband, Lucas Allen, of East Lansing, Mich.; brother, Obed Richards and his wife, Janet, of West Virginia; brother, Hobart Richards and his wife, Alta Mae, of West Virginia; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
