HOULTON – Lou Brown Palmer, 102, died July 28, 2007, at her home. She was born Dec. 19, 1904, in Ashland, the daughter of Henry S. and Alma (McLaughlin) Brown. Lou graduated from Houlton High School in 1922 and from Gorham Normal School in 1924. For 29 years she was employed at the Cary Library, Houlton, as assistant librarian and later as librarian, and at Ricker College Library as assistant for 11 years. Lou was a lifelong member of the Church of the Good Shepherd Episcopal, Houlton. Lou is survived by some very special and caring cousins, Jean James and her husband, Daniel, of Hartland, New Brunswick; their daughter, Angela and her sons, Arthur and Murray James. There are many more cousins including, Roy Smith and his wife, Laurel Ann, of Hartland, New Brunswick; a niece and nephew of her husband, Martha Wilson Pedersen and the Honorable John McElwee, both very dear to her. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. James F. Palmer in 1965; and a brother, Roy H. Brown in 1937. At Lou’s request, there will be no visiting hours. A graveside committal service will be held 1:30 p.m. Aug. 12, at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Leslie Nesin officiating.
