ROCKLAND – Louis A. Miller Sr., 65, died Saturday, June 16, 2007, surrounded by his family at his home, after a long illness. Born May 10, 1942, in Rockland, he was the son of Carroll A. and Carolyn A. Saucier Miller. Educated in Rockland sch-ools, he was a 1960 graduate of Rockland High School. From 1960 to 1980, he was employed as a supervisor of poultry plants in Maine, Arkansas and Louisiana. Returning to Maine, he began with Sylvanias in 1982, retiring as “lead man for auto-motive products” in 2006, after 24 years. He enjoyed golf, boating and loved cruising Penobscot Bay aboard the “Betty Lou,” his 30-foot wooden powerboat. The consummate tink-erer, he also enjoyed tinkering on old hot rods. A long time amateur photographer, he recently developed an interest in, and talent for, digital photography. Mr. Miller belonged to the Sons of American Legion and Rockland Lodge of Elks. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Martha M. Butler in 1994; and his wife, Elizabeth Smith Miller in 1994. He is survived by his partner, Shirley Miller of Rockland; two sons, Louis A. Miller Jr. of Palermo and Daniel S. Miller of Liberty; daughter, Joy L. Mehuren and her husband, James Sr., of Sears-mont; one brother, Phillip A. Miller and his wife, Carol, of Fort Collins, Colo.; three sisters, Catherine Carlson and her husband, Donald, Marguerite Connon and her husband, James, and Ruth Barnes, all of Rockland; stepdaughter, Lisa Dean of Concord, N.H.; brother-in-law, Walter K. Butler Jr. of Thomaston; five grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. An Elks service will begin 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Reinhardt officiating.
