VAN BUREN – Louis J. Cyr, Jr., 83, died Sept. 1, 2005, at a Van Buren nursing home. He was born Aug. 31, 1922, in Van Buren, the son of Louis J. and Anna (Dufour) Cyr Sr. He was self-employed as a potato and grain farmer for many years. Louis never really retired since he farmed along with his son until he was 81 years old. He was a great lover of the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting with his grandsons. He was a member of the Gateway Snowmobile Club and Club 17 at Van Buren Cove at Long Lake. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1635 and the Fourth Degree Assembly 1394 of Van Buren. Louis is survived by his wife of 57 years, Merilda (Thibodeau) Cyr, of Van Buren; four sons, Robert Cyr and his wife, Marianne, of Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla., Gary “Pit” Cyr, Donald Cyr and his wife, Donna, Alan Cyr and his wife, Lisa, all of Van Buren; two daughters, Marlene Tench of St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., Carol Perreault and her husband, Gerard, of Van Buren; 10 grandchildren, Mitchell, Caleb, Kristin, Dominique, Dustin, and Jordan Cyr, Andre and Dylan Taylor, Bryan and Christopher Tench; seven brothers, George E. Cyr of Carmel, Henry Cyr of Lancaster, Pa., Gerard Cyr of Basking Ridge, N.J., Pierre Cyr of Berkeley Heights, N.J., Adhemar Cyr Southington, Conn., Joel Cyr of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Noel Cyr of Pueblo West, Colo.; four sisters, Lucille Dionne of Grand Isle, Cora Gagnon of Simsbury, Conn., Jeanne Cormier of Willimantic, Conn., and Germaine Ciriello of Somers, Conn. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his step-mother, Alphonsine (Castonguay) Cyr; an infant daughter, Barbara; four brothers, Ludger, Rudolph, Paul and Ernest; and by a sister, Elise. Relatives and friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at the Ouellette-Thibault Funeral Home, 118 High St., Van Buren, and from 9 a.m. until time of service on Monday. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. Bruno-St. Remi Catholic Church. Committal service and interment will be in the parish cemetery.
