MILLINOCKET – Louis “John” Colgan, 81, passed away Wednes-day, July 7, 2004, at a local hospital. He was born March 30, 1923, in Jackman, the son of the late Larry and Mariah Colgan. He was active in baseball during his younger years. The culmination was his induction into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame in 2001. He joined the Army in 1940, serving in the South Pacific, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor. His activities included assisting in the formulation of the Northern Timber Cruisers Snowmobile Club. John was also manager of Hillcrest Golf Course for a number of years. He retired in 1979 as the safety supervisor, Woodlands Division, from Georgia Pacific. John is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Jackie Colgan of Millinocket; two daughters, Cheryl and her husband, Scott Ramsay, of South Gardiner, Ellen and her husband, Mike Minotty, of Sebastian, Fla.; three stepsons, Jay Hayden of Del Rio, Texas, Jon Hayden of Pleasanton, Texas, Ronald McCarthy of Pleasanton, Texas; one step-daughter, Jan Ricks of Pleasanton, Texas; four grandchildren, Kris and Kerry Ramsay, Kelsea Minotty, and Jenna Hamilton; five step-grandchildren, Lewellyn and Keith Hayden, Lee IV and Sarah Ricks, and Scott Hayden. He was predeceased by his siblings. Friends may call 10 a.m. Monday, July 12, 2004, at R.L. Bouchard Funeral Home, 11 Tamarack St., Millinocket, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Rudy Homchuck officiating. Burial will take place in the Strong Village Cemetery at a later date.
