BUCKSPORT – Louis Joseph Leger, 52, died unexpectedly Aug. 6, 2006, after a day of activity and fun with his friends on the water. He was born Dec. 8, 1953, in Leominster, Mass., son of Joseph Gerard and Virginia Helen (Benn) Leger of Fitchburg, Mass. He was a devoted and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. A member of the Bucksport Bay Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, he was community spirited and kind and giving of his effort and time. Cheerful, optimistic and loved by many, he will be greatly missed by his friends both in Maine and Massachusetts. Louis is survived by his loving companion of 20 years, his wife, Barbara (Charter) Leger of Bucksport; their children, Joseph Francis Leger of Marlboro, Mass., Annie Leger of Fitchburg, Mass. and Daniel Blanchard and wife, Jacqueline, of Jacksonville, Fla.; grandchildren, Calista and Avery Blanchard; siblings, Bob Leger and wife, Caroline, of Medford, Ore., Jim Leger and wife, Paulette, of Rindge, N.H., Ginny Gagnon and husband, Art, of Los Lunas, N.M., and Annemarie and husband, Bill Pearson, of Los Lunas, N.M.; uncle, Wes Charter of Bucksport; several nieces and nephews; and many extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Dick Leger of Brookings, Ore. and Billy Leger of Fitchburg, Mass. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, at the Unitarian Universal Church of Castine, located on the green, with Pastor Mark Worth officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Dr., Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.
