OLD TOWN – Louis Mark Fortier died March 12, 2007, surrounded by his family at home. He was born July 20, 1925, in Old Town, the son of Jules Benjamin and Mary (Knapp) Fortier. Louis was a World War II veteran. He entered the service on his 17th birthday and spent three and one half years in the South Pacific. Louis worked as a millwright for Penobscot Chemical Fiber, later known as James River for most of his life. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Louis was an accomplished carpenter and craftsman, skills he enjoyed sharing with his children, grandchildren and great-grand-children. He was an avid reader, fisherman and gardener. Louis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Fortier of Old Town; son, L. Mark Fortier and his children, Tess, Madeline and Max; four daughters, Cynthia Shipman and her daughters, Jennifer and Jessica, Amy Fortier and her son, Christopher, Danielle Fournier and her husband, Peter and their children, Matthew, Peter and Katherine, Suzanne Mace and her husband, Glenn and their sons, Daniel and Lucas; three great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Chris-topher and Claire; brother, Harold Fortier and his wife, Doris and their family; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Jules and Franklin; and five sisters, Madeline and Irene Fortier, Lillian Ramsey, Dolores St. John and Alberta Richard. Louis’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Mark Lingenfelter and Letha Robinson of Penobscot Respiratory for their years of kind, compassionate and respectful care. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, March 17, at Holy Family Parish with the Rev. Bill Labbe celebrant. A reception after the Mass will be held at the Parish Center. A graveside service will be held in the spring. Arrangements are under the care of Birmingham Funeral Home.
