BLAINE – Luther J. Bubar Sr., 94, died June 15, 2008, at his home. He was born Feb. 16, 1914, in Blaine, the son of Bruce and Fannie (Sloat) Bubar. Luther graduated from Aroo-stook Central Institute, Mars Hill, Class of 1932 and later graduated from Fort Kent Normal School. He married his wife, Ruth (Holbrook) Bubar, Feb. 5, 1943. Luther served in the U.S. Army during World War II. For many years he was a field supervisor for Birds Eye Co. Luther was well known throughout Aroostook County for his singing abilities and was an active member of the Mars Hill and Blaine communities. He and his wife were very familiar figures at the school athletic events and strong sup-porters of the Central Aroostook educational system, serving on the school board and several other related committees. Luther was a charter member and past president of Mars Hill Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a lifetime member of Aroostook Lodge Chapter No. 197 AF & AM, Mars Hill and Pioneer Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Predeceasing him in addition to his wife in 2005, was a son, Robert Bruce Bubar; and two sisters, Helma McPherson and Ruth Terrell. He is survived by a son, Luther J. Bubar Jr. and his wife, Constance, of Presque Isle; a daughter, Rebecca Bubar of Old Town; granddaughters, Jessica Ruffolo of Rhode Island and Angela Somerville of California; great-granddaughters, Morgan Elizabeth and Gwendolyn Thea Ruffolo of Rhode Island; several nieces and nephews; including special nieces, Rita Boulier and Patty Bell. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with the Rev. Robert Smith officiating. Relatives and friends may call 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held after in the reception area of the funeral home. Interment will be at Tapley Cemetery, Blaine. The family would like to gratefully acknowledge the wonderful care given to Luther by the staff at Leisure Village, where he made his home these past few years.
