BANGOR – Mayland M. “Skip” Eldridge, 69, saw that it was time to check out one last supermarket, picked up his coupons and went looking for a great buy June 15, 2008. He died at a Bangor health care center after a long illness. He was born Nov. 15, 1938, in Greenbush, the son of Maurice L. and Sadie (Bouchard) Eldridge. Skip, as he was known, was always proud of the 23 years he spent in the supermarket business, going from bag boy to store manager. He loved to shop and was gifted at how far he could make a dollar go. All his life he took pride in his work, whether it was fixing an apartment or growing vegetables. Throughout the last 20 years, he worked in maintenance, taking care of two apartment buildings. He made sure to get the most out of each dollar spent and worked as if he was the owner. He loved his family and let everyone know when there was a special family accomplishment. He was an avid coin collector. He loved to cook for two of his sisters, always making extra to share. Throughout the years, Skip’s sisters looked out for him, as their relationship was special. Surviving are five children, Scott Eldridge and his wife, Kathy, of Winthrop, Allen and his wife, Amy, of Northport, Jean Marie Ehman and her husband, Fred, of Belfast, Carol Ann Williams and her husband, Milford, of Presque Isle and Lisa Hope of Brewer; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vivian Boutin of Old Town and his two guardian angels, Lillian Anderson and Shirley Hall and her husband, Bill, all of Brewer. Skip was one of 12 siblings and in addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph, Maynard, Dana, Robert and Albert; and by his sisters, Doris, Marion and Mildred. He will be remembered by very special friends, Bill Roberts, David Pellegrino and Connie and Bub Flagg. Expert and tender, loving care was provided by the staff of Ross Manor, Bangor. Family and friends may visit 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 18, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer. A private graveside service and burial will be held at Pine Grove Cemetery, Bangor.
