ELLSWORTH – M. Elaine Conary, 66, passed away May 24, 2008, in Huntsville, Ala., at the home of her sister, Melba Seymour, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Arab, Ala., the daughter of Wayne and Ethel (Jackson) Clark. Elaine inspired many through her strength and perseverance. Her biggest attribute in her fight against cancer was her smile, which she held onto throughout her battle and will forever be imprinted in our hearts. There were many guardian angels who made a difference in her life and inspired her with hugs of love, cards of concern, words of encouragement and prayers of hope. Elaine was employed by the State of Maine, Department of Human Services, for 29 years before retiring. After her retirement, she went to work for Downeast Office Products, where she found guardian angels, Chris and Gail Brown. Elaine was a member of Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls, where she served as a clerk for several years. She was a member of Ellsworth Business and Professional Women, where she served on the executive committee several times. She was also a past matron, past district deputy grand matron and past grand representative of Alabama of Irene Chapter No. 97, Order of the Eastern Star; past mother advisor, was, at the time of her death, an advisory board member and Grand Cross of Color recipient of Ellsworth Assembly No. 9, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls; member of Daughters of the Nile, Ankh No. 160. There are far too many guardian angels that came from these organizations to mention by name, but they were certainly abundant in Elaine’s life. She is survived by three daughters, Phyllis Sprague and husband, Richard, of Bethlehem, N.H., Sandra Gray of Blue Hill and Tammy Carter of Ellsworth; four stepsons, William Conary Jr. and wife, Jane, of Ellsworth, Robert Conary and wife, Laurie, of Englewood, Colo., Steven Conary and wife, Carrie, of Washington and Mark Conary and wife, Jessica, of Lincolnville; 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; sister, Melba Seymour and husband, Tom, of Huntsville, Ala.; brothers, Jasper Clark of Palm Bay, Fla., Curtis and James Clark, both of Huntsville, Ala.; several nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a special group of guardian angels, granddaughter, Lauren Carter, Sandra Carter, Bev Jenkins, Rena Lewis, Emily Taylor and Bev Palmer. She was predeceased by her husband, William E. Conary Sr. Calling hours will be 4-6 p.m. Friday, June 13, with an Eastern Star service 5:30 p.m. at Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 14, at Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls with the Rev. Emily Taylor officiating. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery. A gathering of family, friends and guardian angels will be held after the graveside service at Union Congregational Church of Ellsworth Falls. He then looked down upon the earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest, God’s garden must be beautiful, he only takes the best. He knew that you were suffering, he knew you were in pain. He knew that you would never get well on earth again. He saw the road getting rough and the hills were hard to climb, and He whispered, “Peace is thine.” It broke our hearts to lose you but you didn’t go alone, for part of us went with you the day God took you home.
