SEARSPORT – Mabel G. (Tenney) Elwell, 86, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at Harbor Hill Nursing Facility, Belfast. She was born Feb. 27, 1921, in Belmont, the daughter of Leonard T. and Maude (Johnson) Tenney. Mabel married Clyde W. Elwell Sr., June 21, 1938, in Massachusetts. They spent many years as poultry farmers raising chickens together. She loved the outdoors and playing Beano at the Winterport VFW. Mabel was a hard worker and a great friend to all who knew her. She will also be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Mabel was predeceased by her parents, her husband; a son, Clyde Elwell Jr.; and two brothers, Stanley and Emery Tenney. Her survivors include one daughter, Myra E. Stevens and husband, Gerald, of Searsport; three grandchildren, Diane Wellman and friend, Frank Meigs, of Ellenton, Fla., Joseph Wellman and wife, Dorothy, of Frankfort, and Susann Dakin of Searsport; seven great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held in the spring. Those who wish, may make memorial contributions in Mabels memory to Harbor Hill Activities Department, 2 Footbridge Road, Belfast, ME 04915. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
