QUEENSBURY, N.Y. – Made-leine Carlow Lowell White, 86, passed away peacefully Christ-mas Eve, Dec. 24. 2006, at Glens Fall Hospital. “Maddy” was born May 15, 1920, in Portland, the daughter of Gladys Grass and Lester Carlow. She graduated from Lincoln High School and was self-taught in secretarial skills. Maddy married Klein Lowell, and they resided on the Lowell family farm in Lee for many years before moving to Caribou, where Klein continued to farm. Maddy worked for many years at the Birds Eye food plant. In the fall, she worked in the potato fields. She became an avid food canner, canning meats, vegetables, fruits and jams. She loved to crochet blankets and produced many of them throughout the years. After Klein’s death in 1966, Maddy decided to leave Caribou and moved to Lincoln, where she worked in the Lowell family-bowling center. In 1968, while visiting in New York state, she applied for and received the position of deputy town clerk for the town of Lake George. She loved her job with the town and continued working there until her retirement in the early 1980s. For 26 years she owned and operated the Saratoga Mobile Home Court, Saratoga Springs, N.Y. Maddy married Richard White of Queensbury, N.Y., and Ballston Spa, N.Y., in 1980. Richard was a wonderful companion and they enjoyed their years together until his death in 1989. As an enthusiastic bowler, Maddy traveled to most of the states in the U.S. She was a member of the Lake George Business and Professional Women’s organization for 33 years and was the 1986 Lake George BPW Woman of the Year. She was a member of the Caldwell Presbyterian Church, Lake George, N.Y., where she had many friends. Maddy always remembered everyone’s birthday and the special days in her friends and families lives. She especially loved all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was a truly wonderful person, ready to help anyone in need of anything, any time, anywhere. She will be missed by everyone who met and knew her. In addition to her husbands, Madeleine was predeceased by two children, Laura Lee Lowell and Lester Lawrence Lowell; and five brothers, Lawrence, Richard, Vinyl, Alvin and Leonard Carlow. She is survived by her loving children, Judith Wilson of Lincoln, Linda Head of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and Brooksville, Fla., Merril “Dana” Lowell of Caribou, Lloyd Lowell of Brooksville, Fla., Klein Lowell III of Holly, N.Y., and Charles Lowell of Queensbury, N.Y.; five brothers, Clifton “Kippy,” Lester and Roger Carlow, both of Lincoln, Robert Carlow of Caribou, and Linwood Carlow of Dover, N.H.; two sisters, Cynthia Millet of Lincoln, and Leone Elliott of Fredericton, New Brunswick. Madeleine also took a great deal of pride in her 23 grandchildren, 36 great-grand-children and four great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held noon Saturday, May 12, in the family plot at Ballston Village Cemetery, Ballston Spa, N.Y., with the Rev. Shirley A. Mosholder, pastor of the Caldwell Presbyterian Church, Lake George, N.Y., officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather for fellowship and a light buffet 1:30-4 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn, Lake George, N.Y.
