RANDOLPH – Madeline A. Dow, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Harbor Hill, Belfast. Born April 13, 1917, in Searsport, a twin daughter of George W. and Mary Ellen (Bradley) Nickerson. Madeline was raised in Searsport and graduated from Searsport High School. Madeline married Norman Dow in Belfast, where they lived, working in the local shoe factory. They moved to Gardiner for a while. There they continued working in the shoe factory until they retired. Meanwhile they built and lived in a cozy home in Randolph. Madeline, was devoted to her husband, her brother and sisters families, and was well loved by them all. She visited often and was always ready to do for others. Madeline enjoyed several hobbies: knitting, sewing and crocheting, was a “happy gardener” and her lovely flowers attested to her attention. She was happy to share them and plants with others. Wherever you saw Madeline you saw “Mickey” or another black spaniel. She was always a dog and pet lover. She enjoyed television and the clubs and organizations to which she belonged. A long, loyal member of the Methodist Church, she will be missed by many. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Norman Cecil Dow, who died in 1981; her twin sister, Mildred Hersom and her husband, David; sisters, Doris Nickerson, Helen Nickerson, Julia Pease and husband, Omer, Mary Grindle and husband, Donald, Anna Bailey and husband, Carlton; brother-in-law, Clarence Tripp; brother and sister-in-law, Myron and Cordelia Dow; nieces and nephews, Donald Pease, Gary Tripp, Mabel Buckley, Harold Bailey, George Bailey, Walter Bailey, Melvina Pease and LeRoy Garton. Madeline is survived by one sister, Cecelia Tripp of Frankfort; nieces and nephews, Mary Ellen and Elton Wing, Mary and Lewis Seekins, and Jean Garton, all of Searsport, Weldeena and Dean Hustus, Madeline and Kenneth Keniston, David Hersom II, Myron and Carol Hersom, Doris Tripp, Sally Tripp, Welden and Annette Tripp, Robert Tripp, Dawn and James Landry, all of Frankfort, Sharon and David Michaud of Gorham, Mabel Buckley of Bangor, Royce Bailey of Pennsylvania, Clara Latosek of Florida; many great-nieces and great-nephews. Family and friends will gather for visitation 6-8 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 27, at Young Funeral Home, 31 West Main St., Searsport. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at North Searsport United Methodist Church with Pastor Stephen MacLeod. Burial will take place at Grove Cemetery, Belfast, after the service.
