ROME – Madeline Eva Anderson, 94, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the Woodlawn Rehab and Nursing Center, Skowhegan. She was born May 5, 1911, in Corinna, the daughter of L. Dwight and Bertha (Nutter) Ireland. Madeline grew up in Corinna, graduating from high school there. She attended Castine Normal College and continued her education at the University of Maine at Orono, earning her bachelors degree in education. She began her teaching career at Corinna, and later taught at Smyrna, Belfast, and retired from Morse Memorial School in Brooks. Madeline was a member of the Smyrna Mills Methodist Church and the Maine Teachers Association. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, John Galen Anderson; a sister, Florence Brown and a grandson, Jonathan Anderson. Surviving are five sons, John Gray Anderson of Glenburn, Paul of Rome, Billy of Prospect, Robert of Brooks and Michael of Searsmont; a brother, Walter Ireland of Corinna; 12 grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren. Friends are invited to visit 7-9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29 at Wheeler Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Oakland. A memorial funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Theresa’s Church, Oakland, followed by a gathering in the Parish hall. Following cremation a committal service will held 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Merrill Village Cemetery.
