PROSPECT – Madeline “Maddie” V. Swift, 72, passed away Feb. 8, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at the “house that love built,” after a long battle with cancer. She was born May 30, 1935, in Frankfort, the daughter of Ernest and Ruby (Lowe) Hall. Maddie was a proud member of the women’s club of Prospect and a long-standing member and vice president of Prospect Community Center. Being a mother was not what Maddie did, but who she was. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee with her sisters and had a hobby of crocheting. She also enjoyed camping with her family and friends in the summer and spent many days on surprise adventures with her husband. Maddie is survived by her four daughters, Linda Mitchell and her partner, Tom Tracey, of Hampden, Jo Colson of Arizona, Althea and her husband, Tom Grover, of Winterport and Donna and her husband, Glen Bennett, of Prospect; two sons, Fred and his wife, Diane Swift, of Prospect and Bill Swift Jr. of Prospect; four very special sisters and brothers-in-law, Jerry and Sonny Parker of Frankfort, Janice and Dwight Moody Sr. of Prospect, Judy Pickering and partner, Bob Moher, of New Hampshire, and Cathy and Stewart Parker of Prospect; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grand-children; a special nephew, D.J. Moody and partner, Mar-lene Walker; niece, Pam and her husband, Walter Lashway; several other nieces and nephews. She will also be remembered by a dear friend, Barbara Tilley, a secret pal and the help from hospice workers. Maddie was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, William R. Swift Sr.; her parents, Ernest and Ruby Hall; her brother, Donald Hall Sr.; and grandson, Ronnie Mitchell. Visiting hours for family and friends will be held 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where funeral ser-vices will be held 11 a.m. Wed-nesday, Feb. 13, with the Rev. Linda Smith officiating. Spring interment will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Prospect. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to Pro-spect Community Center, care of Barbara Tilley, 992 Bangor Road, Prospect, ME 04981.
