LISBON – Madeline R. Roop, 91, passed away April 3, 2006, at the Lamp Residential Care in Lisbon. She was born Jan. 4, 1915, in Patten, a daughter of the late Chester and Ethel (Baston) Richardson. She spent her younger years in Patten and graduated from Patten Academy, she trained at the Madigan Hospital in Houlton for one year. Madeline married Charles M. Roop from Eastport, in September of 1935. They were married for 55 years and made their home in Millinocket, where they moved to in 1947. Madeline was a homemaker and also worked at the St. Andrew’s Nursery School and at the Millinocket Public Library in the children’s section. She was a long time organist and a very active member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church. Madeline loved and missed her church, her house, the town of Millinocket, her neighbors and her many friends. She moved to Schooner Estates in Auburn in 2001, and then to the Lamp Residential Care. Her greatest enjoyment in life was her family; she loved visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and also enjoyed being around all children. She was an excellent cook, particularly her baked beans, rolls and her molasses cookies. She loved music and loved to dance. Madeline is survived by a special cousin who was like a sister to her, Dawn Orcutt of Schooner Estates, and who lived with her for many years; her three sons, Charles “Marty” Roop Jr. and wife, Mary Jane, of Lisbon Falls, David Roop of Saco, and Joseph Roop and wife, Jolene, of Gorham; her nine grandchildren and their spouses, Marty J. and Stephanie Roop, Larry and Mia Roop, Steve and Elaine Roop, Kathy and Michael Beagan, Matt and Sue Roop, Mark and Lori Roop, Jennifer and Eric Ramsdell, and Mike Roop, Sarah and Patrick DiBenedictus; her 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson, one brother, Chet Richardson and wife, Virginia, of Patten, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Charles in 1990; a brother, Robert Richardson; a daughter-in-law, Jeanine Ouellette Roop; and granddaughter, Sherri Roop. A sincere appreciation goes out to the Lamp residential care for the wonderful, loving care shown to Madeline and her family, as well as Schooner Estates assisted living and Androscoggin Home care and hospice. Visitation will be held 8:30-10:30 a.m. Friday, April 7, at the Fortin Group, Auburn with a requiem Mass after at the St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Auburn 11 a.m., burial to be held in the spring at the Millinocket Cemetery.
