PATTEN – Madeline V. (Williams) Glidden, wife of the late Chester W. Glidden, died Sunday, April 8, 2007. She was born March 15, 1922, in Grand Falls, New Brunswick, the daughter of the late Thomas and Ella Williams. She lived most of her life in Patten and was a faithful, beloved member of the Patten Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for nearly 50 years. Serving Jehovah God defined her life. Madeline devoted much of her time and energy to sharing the Bible’s promise that God’s kingdom, through Jesus Christ, would bring an end to mankind’s problems, including transforming the earth into a paradise where our dead loved ones will be brought back to life through the resurrection. Her hope was sustained by promises such as the one found in Revelation 21:4, where it states: “And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Splan and husband, Jim, of Benedicta; her sons, Robert Glidden and his wife, Adeline, of Durham, Conn., Chester W. Glidden Jr. and his wife, Lynn, of Patten and Rodney P. Glidden of Patten; one sister, Marion Mulligan of Patten; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grand-children, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Margaret Cole; brothers, Philip Williams and Wallace Williams, both of Wallingford, Conn.; her son, Brian Glidden; daughter, Thomasine Roberts; and her granddaughters, Nicole L. Glidden, Lauren E. Glidden and Samantha B. Roberts. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 26 at the Patten Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Kevin Higgins officiating.
