PHILLIPS and COLUMBIA FALLS – Major Gerald L. Grant, (Retired), 76, died Aug. 1, 2005, at his daughter’s home in Stetson, surrounded by his family. He was born Sept. 15, 1928, in Columbia, the son of Roscoe and Vera (Ingersoll) Grant. He served with the U.S. Air Force for 20 years as a command pilot and also worked for another 20 years with the Maine Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department, hatchery division. He was very family oriented and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. Gerald loved fishing, hunting, and amateur radio (W1GLG). Gerald was a member of the Phillips Lighthouse Baptist Church, the Blue Mountain Lodge No. 67 AF & AM and the American Legion Post, both of Phillips, and was very community oriented. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Sylvia (Randall) Grant of Stetson; five children, Linda and her husband, Osborne Davis of Addison, Patricia Zebulske of Hermon, Kevin Grant and his wife, Pamela, of Farmingdale, Timothy Grant and his wife, Sherri, of Pendleton, S.C., V. Renee and her husband, Tom Young of Stetson; two brothers, Morton Grant and his wife, Mildred, of Windham, Ronald Grant and his wife, Pamela, of Topsham; three sisters, Kathleen Watts of Hulls Cove, Roberta Holland of Fort Fairfield, Winnifred Rybczyk of Southbridge, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Shirley Pineo; and one great-granddaughter, Tia Dubay. A service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, with the Rev. David Ricker, pastor of the Phillips Lighthouse Baptist Church, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, immediately following the service. Interment will be at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Augusta. If you would like to remember Gerald in a special way contributions may be sent to a charity of your choice. <
