HARRINGTON – Malcolm Everett Smith, 90, died peacefully Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, at a Bangor hos-pital, after living a very full life. Malcolm was born Aug. 12, 1917, in Pembroke, the son of the late Walter E. and Alice (Stanhope) Smith. Malcolm served in the Merchant Marines before and during World War II, sailing around the world on both hemispheres. He was employed by St. Regis Paper for almost 27 years, where he worked as a woods foreman, a job he greatly enjoyed. Upon his retirement in 1979, he returned to the work he loved the most, lobster fishing and his hobby of deer hunting. Malcolm is survived by a loving family, including his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth; a daughter, Gerry Gould and her husband, David, of Hollis; a son, Glen Smith and his wife, Linda, of Columbia Falls; a sister, Edith Stanwood and her husband, Arnold, of Milford; his grandchildren, Katie Merrill, Nicholas Gould and Chrissy Smith; step-grandchildren, Dennis and Matthew Moraisey; and great-granddaughters, Ally Moores and Myra Merrill. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Forest Hill Cemetery, Harrington, with Elder Harold Tyler officiating.
