CALAIS – James Leigh McDonald, 64, passed away Monday evening, Sept. 3, 2007, with his family by his side at his home, after a long battle with cancer. Jim was born May 12, 1943, in Manchester, N.H., son of the late John and Florence (Young) McDonald. He married Beverly Pollock, Sept. 28, 1963, in Manchester, N.H. Jim was active in his community. He was a founding member of the International Festival, a member and past president of Rotary International, a coach for the Calais Little League, served on the Calais school board, the Calais city board of appeals, and the Calais Chamber of Commerce. He worked for Newberry’s Co. for 35 years, Marden’s of Calais for 10 years, and recently, Billet Welding. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Tharpe of San Jacinto, Calif. Surviving are his loving wife of more than 43 years, Beverly; his children, James McDonald Jr. of Shamong, N.J., Jill and John and his significant other, Eilene Brown, of Calais; sisters, Ethel Chaput of Hookset, N.H., Muriel Sprague of Manchester, N.H., and Janet Butler of West Roxbury, Mass.; a brother, John McDonald of Allenstown, N.H.; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call 6-8 Thursday at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with Pastor Chris Stevens officiating.
