ALTON – Margaret E. Brown, 95, wife of the late George “Brownie” Brown, died peacefully Nov. 18, 2004, at an Orono health care facility. She was born Nov 1, 1909, in Oakfield, a daughter of Bertram and Edith (Vail) White. She married George Brown on April 17, 1935, and together they operated a poultry business in West Old Town for many years. She was a member of the Hudson and Alton Granges. She was active in the Alton United Methodist Church, Alton United Methodist Women, and will be fondly remembered for her special craft table at the annual church fairs. She is survived by a granddaughter, Jane Philbrick, and her husband, Jim Goodness, of Stillwater; a grandson, James Philbrick, and his wife, Darlene, of Alton; a great-grand-daughter, Kate Philbrick Goodness of Stillwater; three nieces, Barbara Densmore of Orono, Betty Haaland of Montana, Patricia Edwards of Auburn; two nephews, Roger Densmore of Wiscassett, and Michael Tibbetts of Jay. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, George “Brownie” Brown on Dec. 22, 1997; a daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Maynard Philbrick; infant son, Leonard Eager, son, Ernest Eager; two sisters, Dorothy Tibbetts, and Helen Densmore; a half brother, Earl White; and a half sister, Ruby Shields Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where a funeral service will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday. Interment will be at the Alton Cemetery.
