NEWPORT – Rick died unexpectedly Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2004, as the result of an automobile acc-ident in Sealy, Texas, where he had resided for the past six years. Rick was born Dec. 31, 1953. He grew up in Bridgewater, Mass., graduating from Bridge-water-Raynham High School. Rick served his country as a naval aviation technician, and while in the Navy, received the National Defense Service medal. He later worked as a correctional officer at the Bridgewater Correctional Institution for several years. After moving to Newport he became involved in customized leather goods. He owned and operated his own business in Bangor, known as “Rick’s Leather Works”. Rick was stricken with cancer in 1988 and was a cancer survivor for 16 years, until his accidental death. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to fly remote controlled airplanes and belonged to a number of aviation clubs. In Sealy, he was affectionately known as “Pops”. He is survived by three daughters, Melanie L. McCaul of Weymouth, Mass., Jessica L. (McCaul) Lippin of Bridgewater, Mass., and Patricia J. McCaul of Sealy, Texas; a son, Shane M. McCaul of Lewiston; sisters, Sandra P. (Carroll) Slater and husband, Robert, of Bridgewater, Mass., Donna M. (McCaul) Garrod and husband, Wayne, of Newport; brothers, Barry P. McCaul and wife, Jane, of Plymouth and Wayne J. McCaul of Brockton, Mass. He was predeceased by his parents, Harvey and Helen Willis, formerly of Newport. A private ceremony will be held in the spring in Newport. Rick will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by everyone who knew him. An educational fund has been set up in his memory at the Hibernia Bank, 325 Meyer St., Sealy, TX, 77474 for anyone wishing to make a donation.
