DAVIDSON – Orrin F. Bates Sr., 94, died Nov. 17, 2004, at Patten. He was born June 20, 1910, in Davidson, the son of Albert and Alice (Gerald) Bates. Orrin was a past member of the Sherman Grange and worked at a fertilizer factory and on log drives while in Houlton, then moved to Stacyville in 1932, worked for the B & A Railroad for 10 years and for Hal Boulier. He then bought a dairy farm in 1945, retiring in 1989. Orrin is survived by four children, Francis and his wife, Gaynor Bates, of Wallingford Conn., Earl Bates and his wife, Priscilla, of Southington Conn., Edna and her husband, Harry Hollenbach, of North Woodstock, N.H., and Orrin Bates Jr. of Davidson; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one niece. He was predeceased by his wife, Isabelle; one daughter, Alta Bragg and her husband, Junior; one granddaughter, Beverly Forest and her son, Robert Forest Jr.; 12 brothers and sisters, Ethel Bates, Alice Bates, Clara Bates, Cora Bates, Henry Bates, Jerome Bates, Sylvia Higgins, Edith Rogerson, Percy Bates, Bessie Bates Boardamen, Effie Mullis, and Pearly Kedrell. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 19, 2004, at the Calvary Baptist Church, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at with the Rev. Carlton Huntley officiating.
