HOLDEN – Margaret L. Gagne, 85, wife of the late Alfred Gagne, died Sept. 28, 2005, at her home. She was born March 30, 1920, in Montgomery, Vt., the daughter of Howard P. and Agnes (LeFevre) Lumbra. Margaret known to most as “Memere”, was a resident of Holden for 30 years and resided in Connecticut where she worked as a psychiatric nurse and graduated from the University of Connecticut. She was a deeply spiritual woman who attended St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Brewer and opened and welcomed her home to many. Memere was a long-time member of the University of Maine Cooperative Extension. She loved to garden and took pride in her flower garden and could be identified by her strawberry-rhubarb jam. Surviving are two daughters, Linda LaMontagne of Bridgeton, N.J. and Denise Allen of Holden; five grandchildren, Margaret, Peter and Tancrede LaMontagne, all of Bridgeton, N.J., Dana Gnesdilow of Ashford, Conn. and Ryan Allen of Holden; one sister, Madeline Goodrich of Southington, Conn.; and one brother, Donald Lumbra of West Fairlee, Vt. She was predeceased by her husband; a son, Will Despault; and a daughter, Marguerite DiCiccio. Friends may visit 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 30 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer, with the Rev. Robert Vaillancourt, celebrant. A reception will immediately follow. Burial will be at a later date at Rowe Cemetery, Levenseller Road, Holden.
