BANGOR – M. Annette Stoneton, 97, passed away peacefully, Sept. 27, 2005, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. She was born Feb. 1, 1908, in El Paso, Texas and held dual citizenship with America and her native Great Britain. Throughout her first 38 years, she traveled, studied and lived in Greece, Italy, Egypt, Africa and France, where she received her degree from the University of Paris-Sorbonne. Upon returning to America, she met her husband, Rev. Clinton E. Stoneton. They married Oct. 1, 1945 and had one child, James C.R. Stoneton. Together they ministered at several churches throughout New York and New Jersey. She was predeceased by her husband, Clinton in 1966. She spent many happy years living in Harwich and Chatham, Cape Cod, Mass., while summering in Maine with her family. Annette is survived by one son, James C.R. Stoneton, his wife, Jean, and stepson, Alex, of Orrington; two grandsons, James C.R. Stoneton II and his wife, Ginger, Joel C.R. Stoneton and his wife, Kim, all of Winthrop. She had five great-grandchildren, whom she loved with all her heart, Kelsey, Haley, Abigail, Juliet and Dylan. She will be sadly missed by her beloved pets. She was fiercely independent, sustaining her to live alone until age 95. During those years, she was very active in the historical society, church and humane society. Her passion for her beliefs drove her to lead a life of advocacy. As recently as two weeks ago, she was in contact with a humane society representative confirming her lifelong commitment to animal rights. In her honor of those beliefs, we request that in lieu of flowers a donation be made in her name to the Bangor Humane Society, 693 Mt. Hope Ave., Bangor, ME 04401. A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2005, at the Orrington Center Church, 468 Dow Rd., with the Rev. Albert C. Buzzell, pastor, officiating. Interment will be in Marston Cemetery, Orrington. A service of Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer.
