DOVER-FOXCROFT – Margaret Louise Libby, 91, wife of the late Glenn Merle Libby, died July 1, 2008, at a local nursing home. She was born July 1, 1917, in Dover, the second child of Clair H. and Effie M. (Foster) Gray. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy, Class of 1935, and received bookkeeping training at Maine School of Commerce, now Husson College. After school she worked for PE Ward & Co., Dover-Foxcroft, and later the Rationing Board during World War II. On Jan. 24, 1945, she married Glenn Merle Libby. She was a homemaker for many years, returning to work when her children were in high school. She worked in the Piscataquis County Registry of Deeds and then for Arthur C. Hathaway, Esq., until her retirement. She was always active as an advisor, chaperone or staunch supporter of her children and grandchildren’s activities; band, chorus, drama and 4-H to name only a few. For many years, she was a very active member of Dover-Foxcroft Congregational Church, and held the offices of deacon, Sunday school teacher and advisor to the senior youth group. She was well known for making yeast rolls for church suppers and for many other events throughout the community. She was also a very proficient seamstress, a wonderful cook, an avid gardener and she loved to cross-country ski in her later years. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; her brother and his wife, Foster H. and Thedora Gray; her son, David O. Libby; and her son-in-law, Arthur C. Hathaway. She is survived by her sister, Dorothy E. Gray and her daughter, Donna L. Hathaway; a granddaughter, Nancy Seavey and her husband, Jonathan and their children, Jennifer, Cailin and Austin, all of Dover-Foxcroft; a granddaughter, Susan Karleskint and her husband, Kenneth and their daughter, Katharine, of San Luis Obispo, Calif.; and two stepsons, William Hathaway of Newport and John Hathaway of Fairfax Station, Va. She is also survived by a special cousin, Wilma Andrews of Dover-Foxcroft and her family. A celebration of Margaret’s life will be held Friday afternoon at a time to be announced July 11 at Dover-Fox-croft Congregational Church with the Rev. Heather Kurtz officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Gray Cemetery. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Glenn Merle and Margaret G.
