NEW SWEDEN – Margaret Nelson, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2008, surrounded by her loving family after a brief stay at a Caribou nursing home. She was born Oct. 13, 1922, in New Sweden, daughter of the late Henning and Adeline (Hedman) Mattson. Margaret was a loving wife and mother, greatly dedicated to working alongside her husband on the family farm, while at the same time raising their four children. She lived out her faith through her open door policy, never turning anyone away who stopped by. When they were hungry she gave them food, thirsty she gave them drink, always with her warm smile. Margaret was an avid reader, especially the Bible, from which she often would share her knowledge and offer guidance. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, New Sweden. She lived out her faith as well by doing and giving to others without asking for anything in return. Margaret is survived by four children, Mary Lou Nelson of New Sweden, Charles Andrew Nelson of Auburn, Wash., Shirley M. Nelson-Wakefield and her husband, Brian, and Trish Nelson-Allen and her husband, Jeff, all of Anchorage, Alaska; two grandchildren, Golga P. Sakar and Hazelann Nika Allen, also of Anchorage, Alaska; a sister Katherine Mattson originally of Stockholm and now resides in Caribou; two brothers, Walter “Lindy” Mattson and his wife, Sylvia, of Stockholm, Charles B. Mattson and his wife, Claire, of Manchester; several special nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Bertel R. Nelson; three brothers, Stanley, John and Jack Mattson; and a sister, Phyllis Alessi. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou.
