DOVER-FOXCROFT – Lois G. Bigelow, 85, wife of the late Joseph A. Bigelow, died April 22, 2008, at her residence. She was born July 24, 1922, in Mandan, N.D., the daughter of William A. and Susan (Wimmer) Grams. Lois worked in a wide variety of jobs throughout her lifetime. In the early years of her career, she was employed by the state department in Washington, D.C., as a clerk-stenographer in the World Trade Intelligence Division, then as personnel director of Poland Springs Job Corps, and she had worked as a secretary for Senator Edmund Muskie. After she and her husband moved to Dover-Foxcroft, they owned and operated an antique shop. They created the Bigelow Real Estate Agency and eventually, Bigelow Travel Agency. Lois was an avid bridge player and especially enjoyed spending time at her cottage at Sebec Lake. She is survived by a daughter, Karen Arbour of Kenduskeag; four grandchildren, Christina and her husband, Phil Taheny, and Sarah, Brandon and Nicole Lynch; four great-grandchildren, Zachary Breton, Tyler Croan, Calob Chenette and Lexia Drew; and a sister, Marguerite Cadwell of Bismark, N.D. A memorial Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Dover-Foxcroft, with Father James Robichaud, celebrant. Burial will be held after in the family lot at Rural Grove Cemetery.
