ORONO – Margaret “Peggy” Alma McDermott, 81, died Nov. 16, 2006, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born April 15, 1925, in Orono, the daughter of Edward and Louise (Willett) McDermott. Peggy attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Orono. She worked in several shoe shops in the area prior to her employment for 18 years with James River Mill, Old Town, before retiring. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her sisters, Kathleen St. Peter of Old Town, Avis Cota of Orono and Ruth Gonyer of Westfield, Mass.; and her brother, Edward McDermott of Old Town. She is survived by a sister, Joanne Kochis and husband, Richard, of Old Town; and several nieces and nephews. The family appreciates and thanks the entire staff of Westgate Manor for the loving care given to Peggy at all times, and for the concern and comfort extended to family members throughout the past 11 years. Friends are invited to visit with the family 10-11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 20, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. with the Rev. Roland Nadeau, chaplain of St. Joseph Hospital, presiding. Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Orono.
