BUCKSPORT – Margaret “Peggy” (Donovan) Bennett, 85, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008. She was born Dec. 31, 1922, the seventh child of Melvin James and Hattie (Hartford) Donovan. Peggy enjoyed knitting, crocheting, working in the garden and cooking, she also liked to pick apples, strawberries and raking blueberries. She enjoyed delivering meals to shut-ins with her husband, Bill, for Meals for Me. She was a member of Verona Grange No. 206, Order of the Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Silver Lake Club. Peggy is survived by and will be sadly missed by her husband of 64 years, William “Bill” H. Bennett; one daughter, Evelyn Provost of Bucksport; four grandchildren, Mark Provost and wife, Betty, Brenda Campbell and husband, Bruce, Shawn Provost and Rachel Lowe, all of Orland and Ronda Adams of Veazie; five great-grandchildren, Jason Losier of Orland, Jennifer Allen and husband, Jon, of Surry, Scott and Randy Provost of Orrington and Emily Adams of Veazie; many nieces, nephews and friends; as well as special friends, Melissa Chipman, Polly Spratt and Maude Bolduc; a sister, Stella Saddler of Jonesport; two brothers, Willard Donovan and Malcolm Donovan Jr., both of Jonesport; two sisters-in-law, Clara Donovan of Jonesport and Madeline Sweet of Bucksport. In addition to her parents, Peggy was predeceased by one brother, Melvin Donovan Jr.; and five sisters, Hilda Moffett, Annie Smith, Alice Davis, Minnie Monihan and Olive Getchel. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 10, at Riverview Cemetery, Route 15, Bucksport, with the Rev. Linda Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Peggy’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Maine Chapter, 170 U.S. Route One, Suite 250 Falmouth, ME 04105. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport.
