OLD TOWN – Margaret (Soper) Hall, 92, wife of the late A. Edward Hall, died peacefully April 21, 2006, at The Meadows, her home for the past six and a half years. Margaret was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Orland, the daughter of Owen K. and Laura (Dow) Soper. She graduated in 1930, from the East Maine Conference Seminary in Bucksport. Margaret worked as a nurse’s aide at Bangor Mental Health Institute and later was employed by Waltham Watch Factory in Waltham, Mass. where she met the love of her life. Margaret and Ed were married in 1939 and shared a life of devotion to each other and their family until his passing in 1975. Margaret was a lady in every way; with a twinkle in her eyes, an endearing manner and a charming sense of humor. A devoted member of the United Methodist Church of Old Town, Margaret belonged to the Floyd Christopher Circle, serving as secretary for several years and enjoying bible study meetings with her friends. She also was known as the “Card Lady” for a number of years, sending cards to church members on various occasions. She belonged to the Old Town Women’s Club and was its treasurer for 17 years. She also volunteered at the Old Town Public Library and was a literacy volunteer. Margaret moved into The Meadows in Old Town in November 1999, where she lived contentedly, thriving on the wonderful, loving care provided to her by the entire staff. Her family will be grateful forever for their compassion. She is survived by her daughter, Jeannine Peters of Bangor; her daughter-in-law, Janice (Julian) Hall of Windham; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Hall) Breton and her husband, Nelson, of Windham, Linda (Peters) Lelansky and her husband, Evan, of Portland, Kimberly (Hall) Skvorak and her husband, Peter, of Windham, John Peters and Amber Logiodice of Bangor, and Michael Hall and his wife, Sherri, of Newmarket, N.H.; seven great-grandchildren, Danielle and Benjamin Breton, Nathan and Katherine Skvorak, Ryan and Tyler Hall and Eric Lelansky; as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her loving son, Marshall Edward Hall; three brothers, Marshall R., Neal W. and Keith B. Soper; two sisters-in-law, Vera Soper and Geraldine (Hall) Malmgren; and a brother-in-law, Ted Malmgren. A celebration of Mrs. Hall’s life will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church of Old Town with Pastor Ron Chaffee officiating. Private burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Orland.
