WINTER HARBOR – Maria G. Sargent, 75, died June 24, 2004, at her home in Winter Harbor with her daughters at her side. She was born at Liege, Belgium, the daughter of Desire and Clemence (Grandjean) Lejeune. She met her husband Harold “Spud” Sargent during the liberation of Liege while he was serving in the U.S. Army, they married on Nov. 17, 1945. Following her wedding she emigrated to the U.S. in the spring of 1946. She lived in Sutton, Mass., for many years and with her husband ran “Spud’s Place” in North Oxford, Mass., for 10 years. Following their retirement in 1980 they moved to Winter Harbor where she became a CNA and worked for 15 years at the Maplecrest Nursing Home in Sullivan. Maria was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and caregiver who will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her five children, Jane Sargent-Hamilton, Ida May Sargent and Michelle M. Leighton, all of Winter Harbor, William H. Sargent of North Oxford, Mass., Denise V. Lapointe of Thompson, Conn.; one sister-in-law, Gladys G. Benham of Leicester, Mass.; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by special friends, Jane and Orton Preble of Hancock. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Harold “Spud” Sargent in 2003. Friends are invited to visit with the family 12 p.m. until the funeral service at 1 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 215 Main St., Ellsworth.
