WINTER HARBOR – Marian Morrison Gillis, 85, died Sept. 17, 2005, at an Ellsworth hospital. She was born May 5, 1920, in Winter Harbor, the daughter of Harry Crawford and Bessie (Young) Morrison. Marian graduated from Winter Harbor High School in 1938 and from the School of Commerce in Bangor in 1940. She worked at the Pentagon during World War II as a civilian secretary. She later transferred to North American Rockwell in Downey, Calif., where she made her home for 50 years. She moved back to Winter Harbor in 2003. She loved tap dancing. Her club of dancers was called the “Senior Follies”. Marian was a devoted caregiver to her family. She is survived by four nieces, Gail Gillock and husband, Truman, of Oregon, Marcia Keenan of Ellsworth, Marian Reagan and husband, Daniel, of Texas, and Patricia Boles and husband, Fay, of Ellsworth; nephew, Darwin Morrison, Jr. and wife, Theresa, of Ellsworth; a close friend and caregiver, Nancy Chipman. She was predeceased by her husband, Ronald C. Gillis; two brothers, Darwin Morrison Sr. and Harry Morrison Jr.; and sister, Marguerite Burnham. Calling hours will be held 3-4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 22, at Greenwood Cemetery, Winter Harbor, with the Rev. James Renwick officiating.
