FRANKLIN, Mass. – Marie (Billings) White, 84, of Pineridge Drive, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2006, at Milford Regional Medical Center, Milford, Mass. She was the wife of the late Harley Morton White, a decorated World War II veteran, who died in 1978. She was born July 19, 1922, in Little Deer Isle, the daughter of the late Cecil and Edna (Snowden) Billings. A resident of Franklin, Mass., since 2001, she had previously been a lifelong resident of Stonington and was a graduate of Graceland College, Lamoni, Iowa. Mrs. White was a longtime active member of the former R.L.D.S. Church, now known as the Community of Christ Church, Stonington, where she served as the women’s leader for many years. She had also been an educator at Cranberry Isle, Grand Lake Stream and Deer Isle-Stonington. For many summers she was the popular head cook at the Island Country Club, Deer Isle. Mrs. White is survived by a daughter, Marley A. Couchon of Franklin, Mass.; a son, Alan N. White of East Orland; two grandchildren, Kate M. Sullivan of Uxbridge, Mass., and Matthew T. Williams of Franklin, Mass.; and her skye terrier and joy of her life, Arthur. She was predeceased by her beloved sister, Fern Billings; and three brothers, Arnold, Harlan and Herbert Billings. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the Community of Christ Church, Burnt Cove Road, Route 15, Stonington, Maine, with High Priest Arthur Emerson officiating. Burial will be private at a later date. Visiting hours will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, from in the Buma – Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford, Mass.
