CARIBOU and YARMOUTH – Marie “Connie” Staples, 79, died Dec. 7, 2006, in Yarmouth. She was born Aug. 22, 1927, in Boston, the daughter of Edward and Annie (Bouchard) Clevette. She was a graduate of Caribou High School. Constance was employed at the Aroostook Republican, as a bookkeeper; as a secretary at both Hilltop School, as well as Caribou High School, and at L. S. Hall Co., as a bookkeeper before moving to Owls Head. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Parish, Brunswick. She was a fervent participant in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Caribou, in which she worked in the rectory and also included volunteer work, was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and was a life member of the Lister-Knowlton Post No. 9389 VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She and her husband later moved to Florida, where she was a volunteer for both the Citrus Memorial Hospital and CHANS. She was co-founder, along with her deceased husband, Robert, of the Citrus Jazz Society in central Florida. Constance took ill in 1999 and returned to the Brunswick region. Connie, as she was known to friends and family, was a generous and loving mother who was happiest when surrounded by her family. She enjoyed participating in church events and special holidays. She enjoyed cooking, needlepoint and volunteering. She loved her cats and was always ready to help a friend in need. Connie’s smile and contagious laughter will be missed. Connie was married to Robert M. Staples, who died in Inverness, Fla., in 1992. She is survived by six children, Richard and his wife, Margaret Staples, of Ellsworth and their two children, Christopher and Sarah, Ann and her husband, Peter Eriksson, of Vista, Calif., and their two children, Matt and Andrew Dunn, Sybil Staples and her husband, Patrick Grover, of West Bath, Diana McCain and her husband, Jim Merritt, of Yarmouth and her two children, Marie and Mark McCain, Judy Colson of Homossassa Springs, Fla., Beverly and her husband, Michael Gerardi, of Brunswick and their two children, Eli and Angelo; two sisters, Viola Soucie and Adrienne and her husband, Robert Chapman, both of Caribou; a brother-in-law, Fred Boyce of Monmouth; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Evelyn Boyce. Friends may call 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Jean-Paul Labrie officiating. Interment will take place at New Holy Rosary Cemetery.
