BELFAST – Marion Benischke, 80, of Belfast, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2004, at a local healthcare facility. She was born Jan. 5, 1924, in Little Ferry, N.J., the daughter of Percy and Carrie (Gruenthal) Spalding. She grew up in Maywood and Dumont N.J. before moving to Belfast in 1991. Marion attended and was very active in the First Presbyterian Church of Maywood, N.J. and the Belfast Church of the Nazarene in Belfast. In Maywood she sang in the choir and was church secretary, and she was missionary secretary in Belfast. She worked as a secretary for the Abu Garcia Corp before retiring. Marion loved music, bowling, traveling and was an election ward clerk for many years in Maywood, N.J. She especially loved her grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, John; and a brother, Warren Spalding. Marion is survived by two daughters, Joan Snow of Belfast, and Gail Ross and her husband, Gordon, of Belfast; three grandchildren, Caroline Evans and her husband, the Reverend John Evans, of Strong, David Snow and his wife, Amber, of Searsport and Daniel Snow of Belfast; four great-grandchildren, Bryce Shorey, Colby Snow, Casey Snow and Emma Evans; and special friends, Sharon and Painter Howe. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 5, at the Belfast Church of the Nazarene with the Rev. John F. Evans officiating.
