DELRAY BEACH, Fla. and OLD TOWN – Marjorie Pretsch Averill, passed away peacefully March 2, 2005, in Delray Beach, Fla. Marjorie grew up in Youngstown, Ohio, the daughter of Raymond Nicholas and Mabel (Barrie) Pretsch. She attended the University of Pennsylvania on a full scholarship for three years and there met her first husband, the late Roger Wallingford Wood, with whom she had two children, and resided in Bangor. She later received the Bachelor of Science Degree from the University of Maine in 1961. In that year, she married Roswell Pierce Averill of Old Town, who predeceased her in 1997. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority (University of Pennsylvania) and the Junior League of Bangor, Maine. Throughout her life, Marjorie maintained an informed interest in the arts, particularly interior design, and was well known for her personal style and good taste. In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Raymond N. Pretsch Jr. She is survived by her children, Sharon “Sherry” Wood and Joseph G. Roberts of Grass Lake, Mich., and Jeffrey Wallingford and Barbara P. Wood of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y.; by her three grandchildren, Cristine Pappas Wood, Bradley Wallingford Wood, and Joseph Devin Roberts; by her sister-in-law, Claire H. Pretsch; niece, Donna Pretsch Farley; and nephews, Lawrence H. and Douglas F. Pretsch. Cremation took place in Delray Beach and a graveside service is planned to take place in Old Town at a later date.
