CAMDEN – Marjorie R. “Grammie” Dickey, 95, died Monday, Nov. 24, 2003, at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill, after a long illness. She was born Jan. 19, 1908, in Belfast, the daughter of Harry and Mable (Smith) Roberts. Following high school, Marjorie attended the Boston School of Art for two years, which began her life long passion for painting. On Aug. 1, 1925, she married Clifton D. Dickey in Lincolnville. In 1931, Mr. and Mrs. Dickey moved to Richmont Farms in Camden, where Clif went to work as the manager. On the farm, Marjorie enjoyed designing rock gardens, picking blueberries, taking care of the animals and fishing for trout. They lived at Richmont for 37 years and later moved to 23 High St., where they lived for 16 years. Mrs. Dickey was well known for her painting. Her art also included hand-painted Christmas cards, slate and wooden shingles, and T-shirts. She enjoyed giving her artwork away to family and friends. A collection or her art recently was displayed at the Anderson Inn. Her family said guests in her home were always treated with home cooking to be enjoyed there or taken with them. Surviving is one son, Kenneth Dickey and his wife, Prudy; one daughter, Barbara Bryant Brown and her husband, Doug, all of Camden; five grandchildren, John Bryant and his wife, Victoria, of Camden, Sherry Leach and her husband, David, of Lincolnville, David Dickey of Camden, William Dickey and his wife, Lianna, of Lincolnville, Lyn O’Hara and her husband, Frank, of Rockport; 16 grandchildren, Jason Peasley of Lincolnville, Benjamin Peasley of Guatemala, Kristin Peasley of Wilmington, Del., Amy Bryant, Adam Bryant, both of Camden, Jennifer Dickey, Amber Dickey and Carissa Dickey, all of Lincolnville, Jessica Dickey, Katherine Dickey, and Elizabeth Dickey, all of Camden, Cory Leach, Christopher Leach of Lincolnville, Nicholas O’Hara, Frank J. O’Hara III., and Casey O’Hara, all of Rockport; and one great-granddaughter, Taylor Peasley; two brothers, Herbert Roberts of Norway, and Norman Gray of Wisconsin. She was predeceased by her husband, Clifton D. Dickey in 1994; granddaughter, Jeanette Dickey Peasley; three brothers, Alfred, Joseph and Charles Roberts; and two sisters, Alice Weed and Doris Wood. Visiting hours will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at the Robert E. Laite Funeral Home, 9 Mountain St., Camden. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2003, at the John Street United Methodist Church, 98 John St., Camden, with the Rev. Linda Campbell Marshall and the Rev. Dell R. Hyssong co-officiating. Burial will be private in Oak Hill Cemetery. There will be a reception following the burial at Camden Riverhouse Hotel, Tannery Lane, Camden.
