WATERVILLE – Mark A. Redman, 52, unexpectedly passed away July 24, 2006. He was born Jan. 6, 1954, in Waterville. Mark was the son of the late John B. Redman and Lydia D. (Beaulieu) Redman. He graduated from Lawrence High School in 1972. From there, he continued his education at Bentley College in Waltham, Mass., where he graduated with a bachelor of science in marketing and management with high honors in 1982. Mark then furthered his education at Bentley College receiving his masters in computer information systems in 1984. Mark joined Data General’s manufacturing information systems organization in 1984, as a senior software engineer. Mark’s primary responsibilities were to design and develop a new bill of material system. He worked in conjunction with the other professionals in his team, and was liaison to the hardware-engineering department that would use the new system. Eventually, Mark assumed lead designer responsibilities for the bill of material development team. After his tenure with this project, Mark spent his last several years at Data General as an application and systems business analyst. Due to his father’s wishes, he left Data General in 1990, to return to the family business where he would assume his new role at Northern Mattress and Furniture Co. In 1991, Mark became the co-owner and chief financial officer. His primary responsibilities were managing the company’s merchandise, pricing and groupings. His knowledge made it possible for the company to grow into six stores, in addition to the new Ashley store in Portland; in total the company employed 125 staff members. In 2005, along with his work at Northern Mattress and Furniture Co., Mark and his wife, Karen opened Quiznos Sub with their nephew, Benjamin Haynes. Mark was a devoted and loving man in all aspects of his life. His compassion for family, friends and work was seen in every decision and action that he took. From business meetings to family gatherings, Mark’s heart was always present. He was the first person to enter a room and put everyone at ease with his genuine sense of humor. Mark married Karen Ann of Old Town, in 1992. Karen fell in love with Mark’s spontaneity and ability to live life to the fullest. They shared and supported a loving family beginning with Barry Brown, his oldest son, who lovingly remembers recent times together on Little Pushaw Pond, building Barry’s home. In 1996, their child, Kayla Ann, was born. Kayla lovingly remembers her father for nighttime story reads and sharing hobbies, such as quarter collecting. In 2000, Matthew Scott was born. Matthew will forever remember his nightly backrubs and daily wrestling. Their “Daddio” will remain in their hearts always. Mark loved his immediate family with full heart, but friends and family were close behind. Mark had an amazing potential to see people entirely and accept them completely. He cheered for the “underdog” in every situation. Friends and family will remember countless vacations, tennis matches and endless storytelling. Times with “Markie” will continue to be cherished. Mark was always concerned about doing the right thing for not only family and friends, but in his professional life, as well. During Mark’s time at Northern Mattress, decisions were made with full integrity, compassion and employees’ interests at heart. Mark’s kindness will always be remembered. Mark is survived by his wife, Karen; their two children, Kayla and Matthew; his oldest son, Barry of Bangor; his two brothers, John Barrett Redman Jr. and his fianc?e, Cindy Lea, of Manchester, N.H. and Peter Scott Redman and his wife, Karen Lee, of Winslow; goddaughter, Sarah Anne Redman; nieces, Jennifer Lynn, Laura Ann, Rebecca Ann; nephews, Granville Dexter, Ryan Scott, Travis John, and Benjamin Haynes; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Noreen White of Old Town; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Sue White of West Chester, Pa.
