MILBRIDGE and GOULDSBORO – Mary A. Ashe, 92, of Milbridge, formerly of Gouldsboro, died Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2007, at a Milbridge health care facility. She was born Aug. 19, 1915, in Steuben, the daughter of the late Isaiah and Winnie (Colson) Phinney. She was a member of Pythian Sisters of Prospect Harbor. She was a most excellent chief and took her past chief degree in Portland at the Old Eastland Hotel, where she was an usher for the degree. She was also a member of the SAS Club, Gouldsboro, where she was president and treasurer for many years. She was also a member of Seacoast Citizens of Prospect Harbor. She was a Civil Air Patrol member during World War II in Freeport. While in Freeport, she worked for several years at Freeport Shoe. Returning to Downeast Maine, she worked at the former Stinson Canning, Prospect Harbor, for 40 years. She shared 50 years of marriage with the late Richard L. Ashe, who died Nov. 7, 1996. Family members include a brother, Donald Phinney and wife, Ella, of Freeport; several nieces and nephews including, Beverly Booker and husband, Richard, of Carmel; and also several cousins. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by brothers, Victor, Fred, Harold and Calvert; and sisters, Natalie Stevens, Carmen Jordan and Sarah Haraden. The family thanks the staff at Narraguagus Health-care, Milbridge, for their many years of care and support to Mary during her time there. Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, with Pastor Art Fairbrother officiating. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to call noon Saturday until the hour of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Village Cemetery, Steuben.
