SEDGWICK – Betty A. Saunders, 77, died Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2007, with her loving family by her side, at Blue Hill Hospital. Born April 24, 1930, she was the daughter of Rufus and Thelma (Wescott) Closson. On March 18, 1950, she married the love of her life, Fred L. Saunders and together they raised their five children. Betty worked as a clerk in various variety stores throughout her adult life. Betty was an avid bingo player, spending many hours of enjoyment. She was a 25-year member of North Sedgwick Grange, where she spent many an hour making beans and working on various grange suppers. Betty was also a member of Sedgwick Baptist Church. She also was a wreath maker for many years. In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by one sister, Beulah Meiers. She is survived by her husband of 57 years; four daughters, Patricia Stover of Hollis and her former husband, Fred Stover, of Westbrook, Roxanna Grindle and her husband, James, of Blue Hill, Jerrie Nevells and her companion, Lonnie Perkins, of Blue Hill, and Georgine Fullen and her husband, Terry, of Penobscot; one son, Barry Closson and his wife, Wendy, of Sedgwick; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Eaton of Deer Isle; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Simmons and Mary Owens, both of Sedgwick; special friends, Bruce Grindal and his wife, Lynette, and Pete and Wahneeta Carter, all of Sedgwick, several nieces, nephews and cousins, as well as many other special friends. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Route 172, Sedgwick, with Pastor George Springer officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betty’s name may be made to American Heart Association Maine-New Hampshire-Vermont Affiliate, P.O. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., P.O. Box A, Bucksport.
