BREWER – Mary (Adams) Patterson, R.N., B.S., 85, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Oct. 9, 1922, in Brewer, the daughter and oldest of 14 children of George Clarence and Mary (Coleman) Adams. Mary graduated from Eastern Maine General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1943. On April 17, 1944, she received her commission as an officer in the Navy Nurse Corps, stationed in the American The-ater, Guam and Saipan. She was released to inactive duty in 1947, but served in the Navy Reserve, Inactive, until 1951. Mary studied business administration at Husson College, Class of 1948 and obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in 1977. She was a former member of Holden Grange No. 544 and Daughters of Isabella, a life member of John F. Kennedy, Chapter 6, DAV, life member of ETE Sorority of Husson College and of the Eastern Maine Medical Center, EMG, Husson Alumni Association. Mary was employed at various times at Eastern Maine Medical Center, St. Joseph Hospital, doctor’s offices and as a summer camp nurse. She was also a RSVP volunteer at Phillips-Strickland House. She is survived by six children, Howard Patterson and his wife, Marie, of Brewer, Patrick Patterson and his wife, Tami, of Plymouth, Timothy Patterson and his companion, Kathy, of Garland, Claire P. Winchester of Dixmont, Rita M. Hall of Brewer and Stella P. Markey of Hampden; 12 grandchildren, Philip Winchester, Jerome Spencer, Rhonda Smith, Aaron Markey, Lisa Patterson, Brian Markey, Sara Patterson, Christopher Patterson, Angela Patterson, Amy Patterson, Dianna Patterson and Katrina Patterson; four great-grand-children, Hunter, Daphne, Madelyn and Sabrina; four sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Pauline) Mercier of Holden, Mrs. Fred (Nellie) Hamm of Holden, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy) Nelligan of Holden and Mrs. Richard (Louise) Bissell of Holden; four brothers, George Adams Jr. and his wife, Joyce Dedham, David Adams and his wife, Dianne, of Florida, Joseph Adams and his wife, Carol, of East Corinth and Frederick Adams of California; many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers, John, William and Robert Adams; and two sisters, Alice Sherman and Margaret Loper. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 18, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 19, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Brewer, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at St. Joseph’s Parish Hall immediately after the service.
