BUCKSPORT – Mary E. Sargent, 85, of Bucksport, died June 24, 2006, at the Maine Veteran’s Home in Bangor. She was born March 21, 1921, in Alton, the daughter of Jay D. Sargent and Fannie Kirby Sargent. She attended school in Alton, graduated from Old Town High School, the University of Maine at Orono, and Barrington Bible College in Rhode Island. She served with the U.S. Navy Women’s Reserve Hospital Corps in World War II. She worked as a dietician and a school teacher. She is survived by two sisters, Joyce Ellis of Alton, Gwen Murray of Jefferson; two brothers, Charlie Barns, his wife, Glenna, and William Barnes of Jefferson, a sister-in-law, Blanche Barnes of Alton; also several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, July 1, at the Bucksport Evangelical Baptist Church.
