ORONO – Ruth M. Reed, 82, died after a brief illness June 28, 2006, at a Bangor hospital. She was born April 26, 1924, in Fort Fairfield, the daughter of Herbert and Pearl (Hockenhull) McBride. Ruth graduated from Easton High School in 1942 and from Farmington State Normal School in 1946, with a degree in Home Economics. She taught at Auburn High School and was a home service advisor for Central Maine Power Co. in Rockland. In 1954, she married Frank Reed. They enjoyed 37 years of marriage before his passing in 1991. Ruth was an active member of many civic and church organizations including Womans Club of Orono, the American Association of University Women, Orono Beautification Committee and the Church of Universal Fellowship. She enjoyed quilting, genealogy, gardening, traveling, and her family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Verna, her husband, Frank; and a granddaughter, Jamie Lynne. Ruth was devoted to her children, Richard Reed, Susan Ritter and Mary Drake; her grandchildren, Ryan, Katie, Aaron, Christian, Forrest and Jesse. She was equally devoted to her stepchildren, Willis Reed, Carol Reed Findell, and David Reed, her 10 stepgrandchildren and 22 stepgreat-grandchildren. She brought much joy to her friends and family and will be greatly missed. Relatives and friends are welcome to join in a celebration of Ruth’s life, 11 a.m. Saturday, July 8, at the Church of Universal Fellowship, 82 Main St., Orono, with the Rev.
