BANGOR – Mary Elizabeth McClure, 96, wife of the late James W. McClure of Bangor, died Aug. 30, 2004, in Orlando, Fla., where she had resided for the last six years. She was born Dec. 16, 1907, in Bangor, the daughter of Walter and Charlotte (Rowe) Robinson and sister of the late Charles Robinson of Lynn, Mass. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1925 and the University of Maine in 1929. At the University, she was class secretary, a member of the M Club for field hockey and basketball, and was honored as an All Maine Woman for her academic, organizational, and athletic accomplishments. She remained an active member of her sorority, Alpha Omicron Pi, after her graduation. She performed volunteer work with the YWCA for many years, was an active member of the Athene and Quipus women’s clubs in Bangor, and was a member of First Church of Christ Scientist. Mary is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Roderic and Bonnie McClure of Orlando, Fla, and Alan and Pat McClure of Mill Creek, Wash.; five grandchildren, Barbara Harrington of Fairfield, Conn., Bruce McClure of Casselberry, Fla., James McClure of Orlando, Fla., Casey McClure of Snohomish, Wash., and Kelly Eickenhorst of Frisco, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. A gathering of remembrance will be held 7-9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 8, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center Street, Bangor. A graveside service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 1048 State St., Bangor, with Jacqueline MacDermott, First Reader, First Church of Christ Scientist, Bangor, officiating. If friends and family could please meet at 10:15 a.m. at the Superintendents Lodge (State Street Entrance) prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, gifts in her memory may be sent to the Bangor-Brewer YWCA, 17 Second St., Bangor, ME 04401.
