ORONO – Mary Gloria (Paddock) Hackett, wife of Edward William Hackett Jr., 78, passed away peacefully Nov. 21, 2006, surrounded by her loving family. Mary was born April 6, 1928, in Milo. She graduated from Milo High School, Class of 1945, then attended the Maine School of Commerce, presently Husson College. She was employed by New England Tel & Tel as an operator. Edward and Mary were married at Saint Xavier’s Catholic Church, Derby, July 22, 1947. Mary was the epitome of womanhood; she was a selfless devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. “Mimi” was so special and unique; her love of family had no bounds. She was a role model and her ability to instill moral values and love in all her family is her legacy. She and her beloved husband, Edward, were always proud of their family and exhibited endless love and many moments of humor and laughter. Mary’s optimistic personality and sense of humor, as well as her “special” laugh will be forever with those who knew her and will not dim with the passage of time. She and Edward enjoyed 59 years of marriage and raised six children, Timothy, Nancy, Thomas, Matthew, Mark and Edward. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her entire family, son-in-law and daughters-in-law, Pam (Ladner), John Tennett, Gerri (Evans), Rachael (Higgins), Suzanne (Snowman) and Candi (McKay). “Mimi” leaves 17 grandchildren, Kaitlan, Kylene, Angela, Rebecca, John Jr., Janna, Megan, Mark, Matthew Jr., Jennifer, Molly, Zachary, Tara, Lucas, Brian, Scott and Amy. She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Mary, Katie, Tommy, Annie, Timmy, Callie and Alison. Her favorite pets and loving companions, Leo and Lily will miss her as well. She was predeceased by her father, Winfield; mother, Corrine (Kiely); sister, Corrine (Gerry); and great-granddaughter, Grace (Tennett). The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Drs. Clough, Rowe and Rampi, as well as the nursing staff at Eastern Maine Medical Center, CCU, for their heroic efforts, care and concern. Friends are invited to visit with the family 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22, at Brookings-Smith, LaBeau Chapel, 72 Main St., Orono. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Our Lady of Wisdom Chapel, Newman Center, 83 College Ave., Orono, with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe, officiating.
